Votes for Women Talk

The Ormskirk District Historical Society and Professor Paul Ward present a talk on women’s suffrage entitled ‘Votes for Women – votes for which women? Patriotism and domesticity in the First World War’. Entrance £3 or free for students.

Festival of Remembrance

A special evening to mark the centenary of the end of WW1, featuring a combination of music and the spoken word. Tickets £10.

Wildlife Photography Workshop

A comprehensive all-day workshop led by Heather Beckett, designed to help you understand the basics of photography. You’ll learn more about shutter speed, aperture and iso rating. Tickets are £65 per person including admission to Martin Mere.

WW1 Remembrance

The Royal British Legion Wigan Branch is hosting a thank you event to commemorate the centenary of the Armistice. The 1940s themed night will feature a hotpot supper, live music and a raffle. Tickets are £5 and can be booked by visiting the Royal British Legion Wigan Branch’s Facebook page.

Road to the Armistice Talk

Douglas Valley Historical Society and Steve Williams present a talk on the 1918 Armistice. Visitor entry costs £2.50 per meeting, annual membership is £12. For more details, call 01257 462166.

Rebel Women: The Fight for Suffrage in Wigan

Commemorate the centenary of women over 30 getting the vote. A full itinerary of speakers including Helen Pankhurst, granddaughter of Sylvia Pankhurst, are scheduled to appear. Tickets £12 for anyone living in the Wigan borough or £15 for anyone else. Lunch included. Contact the Museum of Wigan Life to book.

North West Bird Watching Festival

7 guest speakers over 2 days, including One Show presenter George McGavin. There are rooms full of exhibitors including books, clothes and charities, chances to feed otters, white storks and swans. Guided walks of the reserve, the 4th annual bird race on the Saturday, and bird ringing demonstrations.

Christmas Model Railway Show

The Rainhill Model Railway Club presents a day of model trains, layouts, traders and a Santa’s Grotto. There will also be vintage buses running between the show and the North West Museum of Road Transport. Adult admission is £3.50 or £4 for a child including a gift from Santa.

Santa Weekend

Come along for some festive transport fun, free rides on Christmas buses, model railway displays, Christmas crafts and a Santa’s grotto. Grotto tickets £8 including museum admission, or normal admission charges apply.
